About the Author

Jim Halderman brings a world of experience, knowledge, and talent to his work. His automotive service experience includes working as a flat-rate technician, a business owner, and a professor of automotive technology at a leading U.S. community college for more than 20 years. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio Northern University and a Masters Degree in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Jim holds a U.S. Patent for an electronic transmission control device. He is an ASE certified Master Automotive Technician and is Advanced Engine Performance (L1) ASE certified. Jim is the author of many automotive textbooks all published by Pearson Education. He has presented numerous technical seminars to national audiences including the California Automotive Teachers (CAT), the Illinois College Automotive Instructor Association (ICAIA), as well as a member and presenter at the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT).   Jim was also named Regional Teacher of the Year by General Motors Corporation and outstanding alumni of Ohio Northern University. He and his wife, Michelle, live in Dayton, Ohio. They have two children.

the book needs more wiring diagrams . The new ASE tests have lots and lots of wiring diagrams . The book does have lots of sample question but you will see them over and over in different sections . I wouldn't recommend this book for the price it should be around 20 bucks . I am a certified tech and if you are looking for a book to study i would recommend motor age or delmar .

When you first open this book all you get are are style questions for each ase. From transmissions, brakes, engine performance and etc. you get answers at the back of the book, but no refresher on the basics before you take the questions. Unlike the delmar learning books for each ase. A lot of useful questions but not for the beginners looking to take a ase

I tested for Electrical and Engine performance 3/15/16. A lot of the material that was on the test was not covered like diagrams and schematics.

This is not a book for people fresh into the field. This book is little more than practice tests for each ASE and is meant for seasoned technicians to see where they might struggle. The book does what its supposed to do, however, that in itself is worth a five star rating. There are numerous misprints and missing diagrams that detract from its overall quality, which is why I only gave it three stars.

I do not consider it a study guide it’s just a bunch of questions with answers explained.
