Very good translation and insight into Mahayana Buddhism.

No fluff here, Straight to the point and concise. Though modern scholars say this was composed way later and not by the Author it is attributed to...that does not diminish it's supreme importance.A Great Bridge between Nagarjuna and Asanga.Mainly a treatise about the Sunyata and how the lower mind produces all that we see and experience, it, Like the Lankavatara, does not in my estimationequate with Yogacharya and Asanga's more complicatedbeliefs in the reality of the Conventional reality.Get your highlighter out. Though complex and complete, no preparatory study is needed in my opinion. Forget about Richards.This and the Dwight Goddard version are the best for the Chan oriented seeker. Hakeda's translation great for those more geared towards academic and Tibetan writings. For those more inclined towardsMipham, Gorampa, Lonchenpa, Dolpopa, or Sakya Pandita's very articulate writings. Goddard's text is more free flowing and Chan orientedreaders.

Given the fresh controversy surrounding texts of this type - viz. the 'Critical' Buddhist fraternity, who regard Asvagosha's shastra as an archetypal source of all the 'bad,' 'un-Buddhist' ideas and distortions which have polluted their 'pure' version of the Dharma - it is worth taking a fresh look at the material. Suzuki's translation - dating back to 1900, still conveys a good account of Asvagosha's teaching. True enough, this shastra, venerated for centuries, contains plentiful references to the idioms so disliked by the 'Critical' Buddhists (viz. svabhava, dharmata, dhatu, alaya-vijnana etc.) - deemed harmful, one and all, because they appear to involve a dubious 'substantialism,' likely to lend themselves to dangerous constructs, agendas etc.(about 29 references to Asvagosha's text appear in 'Pruning the Bodhi Tree' - tied to the negative inferences of the 'Critical' Buddhist fraternity). However, the way this is handled seems little better than 'philological train-spotting' - looking for trains, with out seeing where they originate and terminate. I defy anyone to read Asvagosha's words about 'sraddha' or faith in the Mahayana, with its clear injunctions against 'killing, stealing, lying' etc. - and its allied notion of the bodhisatva vow or 'pranidhana' - transferring merit to all other living beings, as a possible vehicle for war. It is a nonsense. I quite agree with Peter Gregory's veridict (cf. Pruning the Bodhi Tree) that despite their Asian background, 'Critical' Buddhists such as Hakamaya and Matsumoto sound much like 19thc Western theologians, their assumed rationality, a restatement of the 'white man's burden' approach to World Culture. Quite apart from issues of concern to the 'Critical' Buddhist fraternity - viz. terminology, doubts have also been cast on the very origins of this material - nominally an Indian text, translated into Chinese by Indian Buddhists (e.g. Paramartha , Siksananda). Similar doubts have been raised about the Surangama Sutra, The Sutra of Complete Enlightenment (Yuan Chueh Ching), The Mahaparinirvana Sutra, even portions of the Saddharma Pundarika or Lotus Sutra. Again, certain texts in the 'Pure Land' corpus were also threatened with the chainsaw - but then, the Sanskrit originals turned up again and all was forgiven. So, before we engage in yet more chainsaw massacres, would it not be wise to re-evaluate what texts say, and mean -in practical terms? Reading Suzuki's translation and explication of key idioms in the text - as against selective 'snippets' invokes a different picture. While by no means unique in Mahayana sources, I found it rather moving the way 'sraddha' or 'faith' emerges in Asvagosha's teaching, synonymus with a universal vow to strive toward enlightenment for the sake of all living beings. It strikes me that Asvagosha's teaching resonates well with what the Lankavatara Sutra says about 'paravrtti' or a 'turning about' in the seat of consciousness, explaining the distinct difference between a world perceived through the influence of manas, jneyavarana, klesa -or perceived in its total condition as the Dharmakaya. Perhaps - minus 'sraddha' (faith), the very thing stressed in the title of this work, none of it will make sense, leaving us liable to form all sorts of spurious conclusions. As the old Buddhist proverb has it "without the hand of faith, you cannot take hold the mani-gem" - or pearl of wisdom. Regardless of contemporary trends, 'The Awakening of Faith' by Asvagosha remains a vital and inspiring source for Buddhists. I suggest reading Suzuki's version alongside Hakeda's text. Suzuki gives you Siksananda's version, Hakeda gives you Paramartha's.

Rajat Gupta convinced me of his integrity and honesty. He is a victim of a witch-hunt. The irony is that his great wealth added to his vulnerability. The author reveals the basic dishonest of prosecutors who pander to populist rage and bitterness. The reader should be enraged---and fearful. But will this be the case? I am doubtful. Read this book and weep. Highly recommended. I feel sympathetic to Mr Gupta as he comes across as a nice and gentle person, however his story is beyond belief. He states innocence, however not only in the original trial but rather also in the appeal against his conviction in court of appeals rejected the arguments, He spends much of the book in giving up the defense, however same defense was found not sufficient by us court of appeals. I feel this is an attempt at revising history to reclaim some reputation. Mr Gupta would have found much more sympathy if he would have accepted his mistakes and have told truthfully all the mistakes that he did may be history would have been less harsh on him that way. Still a sad story nonetheless,.

In contrast to stand-up guy Raj Rajaratnam (i.e. not a rat), Mr. Gupta is a complete and utter phony. As the Vanity Fair article confirms, "Gupta's book shows an alarming lack of regret, an alacrity for finger-pointing, and a stubborn refusal to take responsibility." Don't believe a single word that he says about ANYTHING. Every ex-con has good intentions about helping those he left behind, but really the primary goal is simply to get your life together because you're trying to come back from the dead. Listen, this Gupta Guy ran like a cheetah to get the information in a timely manner on many occasions, not just the GS investment. He wanted to get rich above all else, so he tried to ride The Man's coattails and burned his own ass in the process. It's hard to imagine, but every sentence on every page is a lie. How could someone be so self-unaware and delusional? I can't explain it other than he pretended he was a tough guy at Camp Cupcake who shared a cubicle with "a large, muscular white guy with a shaved head and tattoos on every visible area of skin" yet "professes to remember his time in prison quite fondly." WTF? My first cellie murdered a snitch, had a long knife, and I'm pretty sure I wet my bed that first night. Prison is not a "fond" thing, and if this guy did time in a real joint, he would have been a fondled thing. This dude is clearly manufacturing a narrative as he glides through life with his McKinsey persona still intact. Mr. Gupta, you ruined your life, so get over it and wear your scarlet letter with pride.

The book is an exercise in fantasy for the author.

I clearly ordered Biology Lab Manual by Vodopich 9th Edition; when I opened the package last year it was 7th edition. I was not able to return it since I badly needed the book. Because its the same publisher & author, only a couple of sentences and pictures are missing. All in all, I was pretty upset. Thank God my professor is nice enough to let it slip. But I sure hope they would send me a replacement. It doesn't feel good buying one thing and receiving a different one.

I didn't realize when I bought this lab manual that it was the custom edition... I didn't see it anywhere in the description, and by the time my class got to one of the labs left out it was too late to replace.The manual is in pretty good condition, though there were a couple of labs filled out in pen. The edges of the pages are worn as is to be expected for a used book. Unfortunately, it wasn't the version I expected.

Pretty good lab book. As I haven't needed a book for any other lab I have done, I don't have anything else to compare it to. However, it does a good job, could be better, of explaining what is going on in the experiments. That, and I had to have it for school. I often wonder, if it wasn't for school, how much of these books would really be sold?

Book is right but came with water damage on the pages -- I have to make scanned copies of the pages, so that's not ideal for a scanner. It is hella cheaper to rent this older edition, than it is to buy the new one or this edition of the manual.

You can only download this book too 2 devices. Both Devices I've attempted to download it too is not compatible. I do not recommend using the Kindle Version of this book.

The book is not in very good condition at all. The front cover is on the verge of falling off and it's very worn down. Unfortunately I won't be able to use it for school and it's too late to reorder one so I'm using a friend's. Overall would not recommend. Thanks
