I bought this book many years ago when Dr. Crook wrote the first edition around 1986. At that time many of the prescriptions for Candida Yeast infections were not available in the US or not invented yet. I recall doing well based on the advice of the book then, but the diet was very difficult to follow. The latest version with updated revisions, includes meal menu items, foods you must avoid at all costs, and ways to test for food allergies that work. I've followed the diet for 8 days thus far and have not only lost 10 lbs, but feel better overall. I haven't obtained a prescription yet from my doctor to kill the yeast, but just the diet alone is helping. I'm sleeping better, up less often during the night, no more itching issues in those places us men aren't supposed to scratch in public. I've learned foods, fruits, and condiments I thought were healthy and good for us, are a major cause aggravating Yeast infection issues. Mine started again along with massive weight gain while starving myself, after a long stay in the VA Hospital and pumped with strong antibiotics via IV's and pills. I lost 67 lbs while sick and started feeling better, but put on 80 lbs in 12 months time due to the yeast issues caused by the antibiotics. No amount of dieting with fresh vegetables, yogurts, fresh fruits, 2% milk even, stopped the weight gain. Literally starving myself still caused weight gains. The book reminded me of the mold and sugars in foods that are okay for people without the yeast problems, can eat without worry. I knew from past experience this diet works, and for me I hope it allows me to avoid Bypass surgery as my last resort option (especially with VA doctors that aren't as professional as private doctors). I highly recommend this book, even if you don't think you have a Yeast infection problem There are simple tests and questions inside designed to help you determine if Yeast is causing your problems in health and/or weight. I am now ordering his Yeast Connection Cookbook. This should be a good companion book if you are considering this one. That (meals I could make) in the past was the difficult part, learning what I could actually have to eat or drink. By the way, I am eating until full, only some cravings that I can now better control, and best of all.....finally losing weight. This will teach you many things about the foods we love that are literally killing us. It is worth the effort and will be not only a life time and lifestyle change, but will make you feel 100% for the first time in years. I've learned to like foods I never would have tried before in my life, even my old cat is healthier and wants the asparagus spears and broccoli I cook in my own herbs grown on the patio.****Update****I started this Yeast Connection Diet on 9/5/2013 and as of 11/1/2013, I have lost 32 lbs so far. This is without any added medications. Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, and Prostate issues have all improved. Overall health and energy level is dramatically improved, plus I have discovered food allergies I never knew about. Most of the recipes are good, some need improvement. The key is, avoid ALL processed foods, including sauces like A1, Mustard, Mayonnaise, etc. You can make your own from scratch knowing exactly what goes into it. As all diets, doing without sugar, salt, etc. is more expensive (my food bill doubled), but this one is well worth it for the benefits for me thus far. As much as I once loved Coca Cola, Domino's Pizza's, fried anything, sweets, etc. Nearly all the foods with sugar or salt added, I can't stand the taste of anymore. Even Kraft American Cheese slices I loved once, are too salty for me now. It is a very time consuming and strict diet, but being retired I have more time for the shopping and preparation now. If you have a busy life, make up your meals and ingredients for a week or so in advance. Make sure to refrigerate or freeze them since they will not have any preservatives (unless you like green or black mold). As you get practice with making condiments and meal items, it gets easier and faster with practice.For those of you struggling with Yo-Yo diets, or like me, put on weight while counting calories living on 700 per day, weighting portions, counting carbs, etc. that didn't work, and worse, put on the weight anyway. I haven't counted a single calorie or weighed portions since starting this diet. For me it was a waste of time and just didn't work. Things I thought were healthy, were compounding the problem and adding on the weight. This is a lifestyle change, to the point of becoming religious in the proper foods, preparation, and changes you must be committed to. For me seeing positive results and averaging 2 lbs per day lost is what keeps me focused. Yes, I have cheated, then find out one meal of the wrong foods not only causing immediate health issues to return, but sometimes as much as 10 lbs gained overnight after taking two weeks to lose the same amount. As you get more used to eating properly, as I said above, the bad foods will not longer taste as good, or your body will let you know real quick not to eat certain foods you gave up.I have been consulting with my doctor, and by giving up dairy products, I take vitamin D, Calcium, and other supplements since blood and urine tests showed they dropped. I could literally drink a gallon of milk per day, but found out even 2% milk is loaded with sugar and salt. So thinking fat free milk and the creamer in my coffee was okay, proved to be wrong for me. Any hidden sugars will restrict the weight loss, salt can boost blood pressure. So I can't stress how important reading labels on every food item you buy is very important.

If you want to understand what a yeast/fungal/Candida infection is, then this is the definitive book on it. It includes the diet you need to be on to get rid of it, and tons of relevant information. Everyone should read this book so you can identify it in others. Pretty much, 90% of the population has Candida, and it causes a host of our diseases, but doctors never talk about it or admit that this condition is so debilitating or pervasive. Must be denial on purpose. Please read this. I wish I had found it years before I did.

This is my second copy. Loved this book when I read it many years ago. I had loaned it to someone and didn't get it back, so bought myself another copy. Good book! The first time I had read it, a coworker passed her copy around the office. There must have been at least 4 or 5 of us that read it and each bought our own copy after reading hers.

This is a fantastic book, extremely informative. If you even think you may have a yeast problem, you've got to read this book. I learned a lot, will be referring to it often.

This book was amazing. It offered a possibility as to what was causing my husband's Meniere's. He was preparing to have surgery to control the symptoms and then we read the book. It has only been a couple of months since he has been treated and it has changed our lives I'm not saying it will work with everyone but if you or someone you love is experiencing these type of issues it is worth a read.

All the information in here is from 1986 or before except I did notice one from I think 1992. It appears the authors 1st edition is first in the book and rather than revise and update the information the author just added the same information a second time. So as you read the book you get the same information 6+ times.This should be basic knowledge now with more advanced testing and treatments. If your medical doctor doesn't know it look for a Naturopathic Doctor as they will know all about this and have dozens of dietary, homeopathic, and botanical treatments. I like the topic and think that it was likely an excellent book in the mid 80's. I hope they reorganize the book to eliminate reputation and update the information.I would recommend getting the The Candida Cure: Yeast, Fungus & Your Health - The 90-Day Program to Beat Candida & Restore Vibrant Health but I would caution that it appears she receives money from the company and supplements she recommends. It has a checklist of symptoms that gives the reader validation to what they are experiencing as one who has systemic yeast infection. In 2001, Sacramento Bee reporter Delsohn spent a year trailing after assistant district attorneys as they prosecuted some of the 13,000 felonies that occur in that city in any given year. The concept is not a new one: Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon did the same thing 15 years ago with great success in Homicide, which chronicled a year's worth of murder investigations in Baltimore. New concept or not, Delsohn does a deft job of highlighting the complexities of the cases that he encounters. As Delsohn sees it, "For all the talk prosecutors like to engage in about how their number-one priority is to seek justice, not just win trials, it's numbers-trials completed, trials won, and trials lost-that mean everything." Despite this somewhat jaded view, the half-dozen cases that Delsohn tracks during the year belie this sentiment. While the verdicts are sometimes imperfect, the overall lesson of the book is that justice is, in the end, usually done. The murder cases include a bakery robbery gone sour, a doctor who throws his young daughter to her death, a drugged wacko who videotapes himself hanging his girlfriend and a Ukrainian immigrant who murders his family. Like episodes from Law and Order, each of these cases illustrates how the tactical decisions of a murder trial play out against the backdrop of very real defendants and victims. While this volume would have been served better by less lawyer banter and a tighter focus, the perennial struggle between the DAs and defense attorneys will appeal to those junkies who can't get enough of bloody crimes and courtroom drama. I'm only halfway in to this new book, surprised no other reviews out there yet since I know a lot of folks in Sacramento area have been reading it. Sacramento District Attorney gave author Gary Delsohn incredible access for his year long project. Working with the lawyers and detectives is shown to be just about like any other workplace - there are arrogant, passionate and sometimes dimwitted people working in every type of job in our lives. Just because someone is a doctor or lawyer isn't reason to assume they can tell the difference between night and day, or at least agree on it! A great read - my wife wants me to hurry up and finish so she can read it.

Just as described

Gary Delsohn proves himself as an outstanding journalist in the classic sense with this book. He captures the essense of the cases but more importantly, the thoughts and feelings of the women and men who tirelessly work to uphold justice in our communities. This is an excellent book that puts a very human face on the large and seemingly inhumane criminal justice system.

This is a "true crimes" book, not any sort of analysis or even reporting on a prosecutor's office. It deals with several very big homicide cases which were dealt with in 2001 by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. Mr. Delsohn spent a year in that office, but it appears that he spent it almost exclusively with Chief Deputy John O'Mara and a select number of homicide prosecutors. He deals only with a few cases, some of which were highly notorious. These cases are presently journalistically, and are readable, but entirely from the perspective of the prosecution. The book reflects the traditional ethos of line prosecutors. It talks little about achieving justice in general. The cases considered are so outrageous that maximum punishments (generally life-without-parole) are about the only reasonable sentences. But a dozen cases do not make up very much of the workload of a prosecutor's office. Sacramento files 40-50,000 cases per year: petty thefts; drunk drivings; drug offenses; domestic violence; bar fights; etc. Justice in these cases are often far less clear. These cases and considerations are not anywhere in the book. Nor do the dozen or so prosecutors in the book represent all prosecutors. The book is a decent read, assuming one wants a true crimes book. It is also a good read for those who are in the area and have some knowledge of the crimes, the locales, and the players. But the book is not more than that and gives little insight into the over-all functioning of a prosecutor's office or into prosecution in general.

An absolutely outstanding writer! This is a book you can't put down, but don't want to finish reading because you don't want the pleasure to end. The writer captures your interest from the very beginning and weaves his story through multiple cases, which are all in the legal process at the same time, but he does not lose the reader. His descriptions of tragic cases never reek of sensationalism, nor are they gory, yet the writer's style gets the message of mayhem across and exudes concern for victims' families without being schmaltzy. This is an incredible insider's view of all the players in local Sacramento law. What an eye opener. A peepers delight. What an incredible year of investigation this man lived! What a flawless re-creation of those experiences! From time to time the reader has to remind themself that this is not fiction, this is reality, this occurred. What he writes is historical. Facts.While this is his first effort, this book leaves the reader yearning for his next novel. Please don't make us wait too long.

I grabbed this audio book for a recent trip and soon tossed it aside because the author read his own book. He rushes through the text and does not enunciate clearly. I doubt that I'll ever try the print version because what I did hear was more about the criminal & the crime than the workings of the DA's office. It's possible that this changes later in the book but I didn't get far enough to tell. The author should seriously consider hiring a professional reader like Scott Brick if he decides to offer any more audio books.

The only reason I was able to suffer my way through this book is because it was our book club's monthly selection. It appears to be written by a seventh grader who is smitten with the D.A.'s office, not an award-winning (adult) journalist. I can't believe his editors let this through -- we're they sleeping??

This is an extraordinary work of investigative journalism by a skilled and intrepid journalist, who, at great personal risk to herself, has meticulously pieced together how the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), led by Paul Kagame, the now much-lauded president of Rwanda, perpetrated a genocide of its own. The RPF's massacres of Hutu civilians started even before the Hutu nationalist elements within and outside the Rwandan government began the mass slaughter of Tutsi in 1994, ultimately killing as many as 1 million of them.The conventional story is that the Rwandan genocide was a one-way affair: the Hutu nationalists killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Tuts (as well as many moderate Hutu). That did happen, and Rever makes it clear that it did; in any event, that is by now well known, and undisputed. But what is not widely known is just how blood-soaked the hands of the RPF and Kagame are and how they have ruthlessly silenced (by, in numerous instances, killing) those who have first-hand knowledge of the RPF's crimes and shared it with international investigators, or were prepared to do so. The standard version of what occurred in Rwanda is that Kagame and the RPF heroically stopped a genocide that the rest of the world watched without lifting a finger. Yes, the outside world did fail to act, but Rever demolishes the conventional narrative that lionizes Kagame and the RPF as saviors. They killed as pitilessly as did the Hutu genocidaires--and in comparable numbers.Rever also demonstrates that western governments have steadfastly protected Kagame, even though they had, almost from the outset, incontrovertible evidence of his ghastly crimes.
