This book is 60 pages on my Kindle Paperwhite. Although it is somewhat short, the information is well presented and covers many areas. It helped me with issues which were causing my cartoons to look awkward. I do not feel the book was too short. It was just right.The info is geared toward drawing basic cartoons, not caricatures. There are areas about defining the faces and elements to make them more specific to people, gender, age, etc. The images are like the ones on the front cover of the book. There are lots of examples on one page with little tips and notes mingled between. There are no huge sections of text. The author gives lots of image variations on each topic.The author seems to cover just about everything from gender, faces, hands, clothes, objects, positioning of elements in relation to sex and gender ... and a whole lot more. There are also sections about inanimate objects.Except for the front cover, this book is all black and white. I can see and read everything well on both my Paperwhite and my Kindle Cloud Read. The Cloud Reader on my Chromebook allows me to see the images a bit bigger but the Paperwhite's smaller screen is still easy to view (for me). On my Paperwhite, I only had one image per screen (unlike another reviewer that had two). On my Cloud Reader, I had two images per screen. (one image is like the pic I am posting).My pages turned very quickly with all the graphics and I had no lag at all.There really are a lot of helpful tips in this book and the price is right ... only $2.99. I feel I got a much more than my money's worth.Unless Amazon removes it, I am including one screen shot from a single page on the Cloud Reader so you can get an idea of what the pages look like.
This book is the only simple book I've found that teaches a beginner step-by-step how to draw cartoons.Other instruction manuals give too much theory and discussion; this one gets straight to business.Other instruction manuals start too complicated; this one starts from scratch.Other instruction manuals give a few examples and say, "draw like that"; this one actually gives you practical exercises, like simple modules in a course.Other instruction manuals teach you tricks on drawing faces only, for example; this one quickly teaches you how to cartoon just about everything you'll need: faces, bodies, scenery, etc.Other instruction manuals give you too many options and leave you overwhelmed; this one gives you one basic style to start with, after which you can build to greater complexity.This book is simply brilliant and brilliantly simple. I haven't seen anything like it. One of my favourite quotes is from Da Vinci: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." This book captures the meaning of that quote.I'm almost never this impressed with a book. What a pleasant surprise!This book has gotten me so excited about finally learning to cartoon--I can't wait.One final wonderful aspect of this book is the price: $2.99, as low-priced as you'll find a book on how to draw cartoons. It's worth 10x that much.
My father amazed my family and me by drawing my brother. When I was 12, he grabbed a pencil and paper as we all chatted after dinner. In less than 10 minutes he turned it around and there was copy of my brother. From then on I wanted that same ability. I took Saturday morning art classes at the museum, but for some reason my art just didn't look as good. I showed some talent in grade school, but not like the other good artists in my class. I could do a few things, but now that I landed on this book How to Draw Cartoons - this book will help the complete novice turn out professional looking cartoons in minutes I'm having fun. This is true step-by-step....EVERY page has an added technique that builds on the previous pages with clarity and ease. The author keeps it simple....just draw some circles...add a nose that first resembles what he shows you..don't mix it up yet...a couple eyes that fit what he says, next page is a mouth.....and here comes your first group of cartoon people. I skimmed ahead and what is waiting for me is more advanced for a novice like me, but I know I can learn this. FUN!....Go have some FUN! just enjoy this book and have some FUN!
I looked inside this book and thought, wow... I want to try. I got out my sheet of paper and began. After 10 minutes I ran back to my computer to purchase the book. As another reviewer said, "brilliantly simple" and "simply brilliant". This breaks drawing cartoons into steps that allow the beginner to, well, BEGIN and experience joy from the creative act almost immediately.I am halfway through the book, but didn't want to wait any longer to say a giant THANK YOU to the author and a big warning to the world. Look out, folks, Anne thinks she just found another way of telling a joke!I noticed a few reviewers complained about the low quality of the drawings. If you as a reader are hoping to create great artistry, you probably want a different book. There are plenty. But, if, like me you think you can't draw, but wish you could, then this is a great book that will get you cartooning in no time.
I was looking for a "how to" on drawing cartoon people, and came across this gem of a Kindle book. It was absolutely perfect for what I needed, not too long, not too short. Basically, I wanted a non-overwhelming "how to" that would help me create fun cartoon people without a lot of background training or theory. This book fit the bill, and I'm really glad I bought it.One thing I found particularly helpful was the information on how to illustrate people of different ages and genders. For example, how does a kid's face differ from an adult's face? Other than hair and clothing, what's the difference between a man's face and a woman's face? The simple clues and tips offered in this book were nothing short of amazing, because he simplified it in such a way that even a non-cartoonist could understand. THANKS!!!
