I love that this book is vague about what the actual problem is, never specifying what terrible thing the main character saw. I feel that this is helpful so that if something is bothering a child, that it might help them to think about what is bothering them instead of the character in the book. It expanded on all of the negative ways the terrible thing was affecting the main character and offered him hope of feeling better through talking to a trusted adult who could help him figure out his feelings about what he saw.I love the line: "Sometimes parents help children figure out their feelings. Sometimes teachers or other grown-ups help. That is how Sherman met Ms. Maple." I love that line for a couple of reasons 1.) Not every child is raised by mom or dad - and it is nice to see that other adults are mentioned as other credible options and also 2) Although many parents are helpful, there are some who are not...or unfortunately may be the major contributor to the child's issues, so for these children it is important to offer other options.Because you can't flip through the book online to see if you like it before buying it, I thought that it might be helpful to write it out below since it's relatively short:Page 1) "Sherman Smith saw the most terrible thing. First off, if you're needing to look into books like this, I am truly sorry.This book was perfect for our needs. I appreciated how the terrible thing was never described in any way so my child could imagine it as whatever he needed it to be. The descriptions of nightmares, crazy behavior, acting out and getting into trouble and feeling yucky all the time were appropriate for my child's experience.I especially appreciated the representation of therapy. It helped my preschool-age child know what to expect--the talking and playing, and ultimately the feeling better. He marched right into his first appointment and told the therapist all about what they were supposed to do and how she would help him, and got right into talking about his 'terrible thing'.

I bought a bunch of books as I just started working with traumatized children, I used this book yesterday with a seven-year-old, I honestly did not have any expectations, the child was not cooperative with her emotions which is expected, so I tried this book " on the fourth session" and we read it together, the child was acting out each page and having fun until we reached the end of the book, where "the terrible thing she saw happen" . She stayed quiet and was listening intensely. What shocked me is when I finished reading, and I gave her a paper to draw, she spelled her guts out and told me all about what she was repressing. This book is very intense despite the simple language. I am not saying that this would be the outcome expected with every patient, each child is different, but at least I have something very positive to share about one case. I will use it again and write an update. Highly recommended book if you are working with children with trauma.

I was a child therapist. I worked with children who had been abused, traumatized, tortured or suffered from privation. This book was a most effective tool I used many times.Children place great value on the printed word at this age. They believe what they read. The text is written in an easy, comforting style. Ms. Holmes helps the child to feel ok about expressing what has happened.Going at a comfortable pace for each child is necessary. This is not a book to pickup and read when there is extra time at the end of a visit or day. Not before going to bed. The child does better if they are well rested.Parent(s), therapists or caregivers must be prepared to help the child feel secure and safe while working through this. Not just during the reading but through out the time it takes to unpack what happened to the child.Assisting the child in understanding, helping them to not assume blame, and creating a safe place is a most important part of reading this book. It’s the piece that is not included with the book.You make that happen. You may also need to work through this with a therapist.Best wishes.

Such a great book for kids who have witnessed trauma!! Our house burned down 5 months ago and my mother died in the fire- my 5 year old and 7 year old have seen more and worry more than any child should. This book has been very helpful in showing my children that recovery will happen and good times are still to come. It is not specific to any trauma- so it works well for any trauma, including a house fire and bereavement.

I am in the process of becoming a Play Therapist and purchased this book for my collection. The book goes into details about the physical symptoms of experiencing something terrible/trauma (insomnia, stomach pain, uncontrollable thoughts, etc) and then it talks about the various emotional components (anger, sadness, loneliness, etc.), finally it ends with how play therapy works and the results of therapy. Great illustrations and simple language. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to use it with children or adults with cognitive delay. Great resource!

To start my review I want to point out that there are little to no pictures in the reviews for all the H. E. Harrison coin folders, I’ll be one of the few to post a thorough review. If you don’t need too much detail just read a few more sentences.These folders worked very well to provide a slot for every quarter produced (from both P and D mints) from 2009 for the DC and US Territories series as you see in the photos. However, there are older folders that match the series perfect that will supply older dates past ‘65. I didn’t need these older folders yet since I have yet to find one past ‘65. I do have the ‘65-‘87 and the ‘88-‘98 folders and there are reviews on those products if you want to check that out. I also own both volumes of the state series folders. This series is very satisfying to the eye and to the collectors organization as each folder is clearly labeled the years of quarters in which they house. (This one being ‘09)I’ve had time to almost complete my set and I’m excited to start my new penny series that I’ve ordered recently. Quality is very good for $3ish dollars a folder, just keep in mind to use a flat surface as to not bend the folder when pushing coins in.Here is my best pros and cons of these folders:Pros-• The folders are trifold style (all besides the state park folder which is a quadfold style) so they all match and look nice.• The folders can easily have new coins put in or old coins popped out by pushing on the back of each coin slot. None of them just fall out though.• I mean $3? Come on that’s just asking for me to impulse buy. AMAZING price for such a good product line.• Each date is clearly labeled with the number of coins minted that year in each mint. (As shown in the pictures)• If you fill up one folder, you can either buy a new folder for that series to continue collecting or they make blank coin books that have the same cover and dimensions with unlabeled slots if you only want to fill it with certain coins.Cons-• One con I found to be an issue is that a few of the books have a lot of extra spots. This particular folder, the 2009 series book, only has 12 slots for quarters and you get to decide what the other 44 slots are for. Wasted space.• The second and last con about these folders is so little I wouldn’t clnsider it a con, but maybe just a tiny flaw. I noticed the color used for the cover varied slightly from folder to folder, some were more reddish and some were more black and white. Again, this is such a tiny detail I wouldn’t let this be a deal breaker, but it is worth mentioning.Overall I couldn’t be more pleased with the entire series of folders and for more details about each book, look for my review and pictures on each product.

I was thrilled that it has spots for both the P & D versions for these coins for this short, one year, 12-coin set from 2009. It also has lots of blank spots (48) as well for other quarters that you'd like to save. I use it for my 1976 bicentennials that I find from time to time.

I was looking forward to this book when I ordered it. I shouldn’t complain for only $4 but the book came with holes in three of the coin slots. Not worth returning for that amount. Still it’s nice to have for the gap of 2009 quarters I have been holding on to.

I save the quarters for my grandchildren and I do like the Washington Quarter books. Sometimes I have a little trouble getting the quarters to fit correctly in the slots, but most of the time they fit right in.

When I bought this, I don't know what exactly I was expecting, but I didn't think I would be paying the same price for a third of the quarter collection. If you're into collecting quarters, then it's a must. However, beware that there is only one page of quarters with the rest being blanks.

I got this for my fiancé for Christmas. He’s collected the states and national parks already and all he needed was the territories. He says the paper is thinner than the other two books he has but it doesn’t bother him. He loves it

Could be better quality. Issues with getting the quarters installed- holes are too small in some instances.

It was what I expected and quality of the book way excellent.

These special addition boxes with the never before released anime episodes are nice with two disclaimers. I learned about these four volumes containing anime episodes that were never released anywhere else at either a Crunchyroll or Funimation panel at C2E2 2018. After the panel we ran downstairs to the hall to find them and they were all sold out. So, finding them on Amazon is THE justification for putting up with all the other frustrations of shopping with Amazon for me. The caveat about the anime episodes in these special editions is that they are English subbed but not dubbed. The second caveat is that if you are an anime watcher, you will need to stop reading the manga several episodes BEFORE these special editions (maybe around 14 or 15) if you don't want a third season AOT spoiler!

As an AOT fan myself, I for one enjoyed this volume. The volume itself was amazing, and the story just seems to keep getting better from there. This special edition specifically, I didn't enjoy too well. I love these special edition releases, and they should definitely do more in the future, but this one was a waste of money. The only reason i'm giving it four stars is cause of the volume itself is fantastic, but there was no slip cover so it was kinda useless to buy the special. The ova isn't that good either.

Quality really fell of for me here. Not only did the story do nothing for me, but there was dialogue crammed in under the binding and sever panels that seemed like it was just plain attributed wrong. Doubt I'll be continuing the series unless I decide to watch the anime and it grabs me again.

Let me start by saying I love this anime and watched all 26 episodes three times. I decided to get the Manga because other fans said the manga included additional information not included in the anime. Attack on Titan 5 has a small part in the beginning that is not in the anime but Books 6 & 7 are like the anime. I don't have the Books from 1-4 but I'm thinking of getting them because there's supposed to be more information about Marco's character. Attack on Titan 9 I ordered with 5, 6, and 7. They all came together in great condition and earlier than expected. The drawing is not bad. Some people said Isayama-san is not a very good artist but I think his art work is good. It's not Hakuoki but it is still good. The story continues to be compelling. Book 9 covers other characters and not Eren, Mikasa, Armin or Levi (my favorites) but sheds additional information on the Titans. I need to buy book 8 because the Anime's episode 26 is in Book 8 but there's also additional information that brings you to Book 9. Can't wait for Book 10 and 11 to become available.

Book is well printed as always. This edition included a DVD that I have not personally watched but my son said was good. Wish the published more often. Great series.

Awesome. Just finished season one, and after being disappointed at the first seasons ending, and ever so curious about what the hell happens, bought this. Starts off right there the anime left off, though still gives no answers. Yet.

I am not Susan but her husband Peter. I am immersed both in this little book and in the larger body of David Hinton's work, having read his Hunger Mountain. Fossils Sky, and The collection of Wilderness poems. Other books are waiting. I have read the comments of some readers, cavils and quibbles often by people more educated than I am in matters sino-poetical, but when I sit with D.H, whether with his own book, his introductions, or his translations, I feel I am in the presence of a dedicated soul married to a superb intelligence. I will never be able to peer past the translations and judge their accuracies. What I can do is read D.H--- this book now---and feel he has brought to me a gift I have not found in the "realms of gold" I have traveled with the literatures I know. Tu Fu's grief for what has happened in his world; his tenderness towards family and friends; his astonishing accounts of the ravages of war; his refusal entirely to give up on the philosophical and spiritual traditions he took in so deeply as a young man all strengthen my own resolve to live out the life of my heart. I am no poet, more a pilgrim, and this book will travel with me a long way. David Hinton, thank you. It is not often I come across work that has this kind of love in it, what you found and what you gave to it.

This is a very fine exploration into the work of Tu Fu. The introduction, the translation, the biography and notes constitute a portrait of the man and the cultural world he inhabited. One always has to wonder how valid a translation of 8th century Chinese poetry into 21st century American can be, and clearly any translator is creating a new being based on sympathies and guesswork, and T'ang Dynasty history homework.But there is a qualitative hierarchy of understanding that provides that the highest perceptions remain comprehensible through and despite changes of time. This comprehensible "something" is not easy to specify, and specification would kill it. Hence the need for poetry. But there is a certain emotional context to Tu Fu's poems about the hardships and momentary joys of his life that is missing from our cultural world, and that is always missing, for which there is always a remote nostalgia. A sense of the realness of life, the seriousness of it, the ultimate goodness of it, or maybe I should say that they, the poems, are explorations of the miracle of selfness in the world of sad events.The printing in the book is painfully black and inky, but apart from that, it's great.The translations were by David HInton, who, by my somewhat limited experience of reading translations of the great Chinese poets, is the best. There is an element of mindfulness to these poems and to other poets Hinton has translated - re-construed - that most of the translators miss. In fact, the mindfulness, the watching, no matter what the personal favorability of the circumstances is the whole point. Transcendent emotions grounded in daily life.

Poetry in translation naturally loses some of its power and beauty - and in reading David Hinton's translations, there is a sense of "clunkiness" to some of the poems. Still, the raw emotion, passion and tragedy of Du Fu's life is apparent here. While I cannot comment on changes to style or content in classical Chinese poetry that Du Fu apparently introduced, the intensely personal nature of his work are far from the abstract symbolism typically associated with poetry. These are the poems of a man who knew how to live - the joys and sorrows and trials of life have an immeadiacy that belies their age. (Du Fu wrote between 737 - 770 CE) An example: "To stand alone - temples bleached with trouble and worry, Defeated .... and here I've just sworn off that blessed wine." What a guy!What I found most helpful in reading and understanding Du Fu was the chronology for the poems (what was going on as the T'ang Dynasty began to implode and what and where Du Fu was during this time) as well as his notes about each poem, providing information about geographical landmarks and specific events relevant to each poem. A must for any lover of poetry or those interested in T'ang China.

This book covers Tu Fu's complete poetry life (from 737 - 770), and Hinton's selections and commentary show Tu Fu's change and growth. He experiences a full life, including death falling in and out of favor with the local government, and invasion from Tibetans. The early poems of separation (Separation in a bird's cry startles the heart) and grief over a children when too poor for food (O, the poof grieve like a boundless wind in autumn trees.") have sadness. Normally a family man, he occasionally seeks the solitude of a recluse "A hermits wall is low, bit still home". Perhaps there is a tension in him, of desire to serve versus seclusion and family. He is one of the few poets, to turn away from government service, for a complete life of poetry.Toward the end, fighting ill health, "Old and tired, my hair white, I dance and sing out. / Goosefoot cane, no sleep . . . . Catch me if you can!"

Tu Fu is one of the greatest Chinese poets, reflecting a Buddhist sensibility and a down-to-earth perspective of life's suffering and joys. David Hinton's translation is eloquent, for those like myself who cannot read classical Chinese. These are poems to be savored one at a time, one day at a time.

For me, a wonderful surprise. Fine art, good translation.

This book and CD are so soothing. I LOVE to look at this book cover to cover. I think it's the most beautiful thing ever. I pop in the CD and look at this book and I'm so filled with awe on the miracle of life. These babies touch your heart, and are captured so beautifully in this book.Anne and Celine have given me such a gift!!!
