Took about 90 minutes to read. A good book if you are at the very beginning stages of understanding a stock and maybe how to buy one. For anyone beyond a true novice, much too simple to be worthwhile. Again, not a bad read, but would only recommend it for true novices.

Experienced investors will also find a few good ideas in the book through the analysis and investing strategy. I have been investing for a while but have to say that my own portfolio has strayed a little from the investing basics. This book reminded me that it’s not so much about winning the stock market game but about meeting my own goals with asset allocation and diversification.

Just what I was looking for, simple, basic, and easy to understand strategies to help me get started! Too bad I didn’t have this book many years ago.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' farmhouse is definitely on the list as are some of the other places chronicled in this book.The photographers, Steve Gross and Susan Daley, who also produced and photographed OLD HOUSES, SANTA FE: HOUSES & GARDENS, and CATSKILLS COUNTRY STYLE, as well as their recent release, CREOLE HOUSES, appreciate and photograph these unusual places that should be both seen and preserved. Their work provides an armchair glimpse into another time--each place is preserved and kept in its own unique manner and fortunately brought to life, and held for posterity, in the evocative vision of these photographers. I love this book! It is a beautiful tour of OLD FLORIDA"S lost treasures of architecture and all the facinating houses and gardens that most tourists never go to. In this age of over development and franchise attractions this beautifully photographed book showed us many wonderous places that make Florida unique. When I found this book I was amazed and looked up the authors, Sue Daley and Steve Gross. It turns out that they have done several books of this sort. They also did a book on Sante Fe and another one on the Catskills and both are as beautiful and interesting as OLD FLORIDA. They are both photographers who seem to be able to find both historic and contemporary houses to photograph that one would love to visit. This is what makes their books so good, their sophisticated eye for showing a place through it's houses and people who created them and we can't wait to see where their books will take us next.

Who knew? Browsing the bookstore shelves for a present for a dear friend recently retired to the Sunshine State I came upon this fine book, OLD FLORIDA. This book is a gem! The excellent photographs show all the great gardens and historic houses like the ones in St Agustine we love to visit and many we plan to. I will be ordering several more to give as gifts.

I bought my son a mig welder for Xmas. I wanted a book that would explain how to weld using the mig handler.Most books I found were dated with very old photos and not much "how to" on mig welding. I returned what I though was the best of the lot and purchased this one. I like it! It's moder, up to date, with good color, step by step illustrations.The one thing missing, in my opinion, is cross-sectional close ups of good and bad welds and their causes of failure.

Really like this book! I'm a total beginner though, so if you are already experienced, this book may be too basic for you. It's well-written and seems like the author is having a conversation with you.

Easy read, good info. Great for the novice. Some stuff was very obvious to me, but Its good that its included for the newb.

Very nice, up to date data, reads well and should do a good job of getting anyone started welding. Targets novices but should be useful for most hobbyists.

I've wanted to get into welding for years and finally Santa got me a welder for Christmas. As with any new tool or toy, I'm looking for this to do with it. This book is a helpful resource on projects and the basics.

Purchased this book for my 15-year-old son. He finds it easy to understand and complete. We can't wait to get the tools and begin to learn!

I got this book for my husband and he's reading it and liking it. He did mention that it's kind of for beginners and he could skip some stuff, but is reading it all. My husband doesn't weld much and we have a friend who welds as a profession - a needed activity for things that go wrong in this remote area of our state.

The title lead me to believe that the contents of this book was of a different flavor. I was expecting a more Apocalyptic setting or disaster related material. Although it is very informative, it is simply a how to manual for most situations in life. From First Aid to Poison Control. I also bought this book as the author is well known in the field of survival and it seemed like a purchase on his name alone warranted credibility of this material. However, the book is nicely put together and edited. The pages have a nice sheen which will repeal water or liquids. This would be a great book for the kids as they leave home to start their own life.

Very little of value. I don't give neg revues unless I am totally let down and this did it for me. I love the SAS survival handbook so I thought this would be a great followup. The two books are not even in the same universe. This seemed to be a good way for someone to make some money based on the success of the first book. So get an alarm system, always lock your doors and don't walk down dark alleys. This is the kind of thing that is prevalent in this book. Sorry to say but a huge letdown.

A great combination of skills in one book, written by the man who produced the hands-down best outdoor survival book. Fun to read, and full of useful tidbits, whether you are preparing a "bug-out bag" or just looking for ideas in case of an emergency. A must-have.

Very descriptive in Urban life in things that you'll encounter in the city, on the field, and even at home, which I like the most. But he even goes into bird of outdoor survival like plants that are able to eat, and dangerous shakes, which is all good to know.

This book should be required reading for everyone. The survival information it contains will save your life when the zombies wake from the dead or a solar flare destroys the power grid. As a former infantry Marine I love this book and the amount of knowledge it has provided me with. I highly recommend this for anyone who like the outdoors and or general survival know how.

Wow. This book is definitely comprehensive. Wiseman's book on Wilderness Survival is great for people to survive in the wilderness on nothing. This book is written for people in Britain that have never seen civilization. I guess I was looking for a type of survival book to cover how to survive in an urban setting in a major disaster. This book covers everything from "don't eat moth balls" to "don't plant willow trees too close to your house or you might weaken your foundation". Most of the stuff is ridiculous common sense.The one area I was interested in was Self-Defense. Unfortunately this was just a lot of British Law stuff.Overall the book is pretty comprehensive but more or less ridiculous. You have to be insane to read it cover to cover. And if you're not, you will be by the time you finish it.

Expected more advice. Too basic.

An excellent book by a former Navy SEAL, and CIA operator detailing the making of a Green Berets soldier who he accurately points out is the most important asset our military has in the Global War On Terror & Radical Islamic Extremism. A must read for anyone who is thinking on volunteering for Special Forces & for those in conventional units to grasp & understand their capabilities & necessities to win & be successful in today & future wars & conflicts.

This book wonderfully illustrates the courage, strength, and intelligence required of a special forces recruit. I especially liked the analogy that a special forces warrior is a member of the peace corp. on steroids. The individual stories of the different recruits that Mr. Couch followed made the difficulty of the training process that much more personal. The intense pressure that a recruit who wants to be at the command level must endure is incredible. This book should be required reading of any man who wants to join the special forces. I really enjoyed it.

I have been looking into RANGER school for some time now ever since I was denied my school date due to "paperwork mishap" in AIT. Ever since I have been looking to aim higher for my career. I read this book every morning during my guard shift and I can barely put it down to perform the appropriate customs and courtesy's the job entails. I have had the distinct pleasure of working and training with one of the groups mentioned in this book and have used it to plan my approach to the Special Forces selection and training. Dick Couch really goes into every possible detail about the trials and tribulations each individual in his ODA experiences. He clearly explains all the way through the "X-ray" option of enlisting all the way through the Q-course and selection as well as in depth descriptions about the individual MOS training. I now know what I want to focus on most and aim for when I go to selection. I think every American should read this book so they can really get a grasp on the training these people go through to make them one of the best. It might make some appreciate the freedoms they have that we as military forfeit, and they as special forces soldiers protect on a first hand basis. I only wish Mr. Couch would write a book about Delta Force.Def. a 5+ star rating, I have already told a few friends to pick up a copy because I don't want to let mine go.

Absolutely LOVE this book. Takes you through each step of the 18x program from start to finish in extreme detail. Is absolutely a must read for anyone planning on joining special forces and wants to know what to prepare for. Couch is an incredible author who takes the time to give you the knowledge you are searching for if you want to know more about SF training.

Dick Couch as always has a captivating way of writing that puts you in the perspective. I've read at least 3 of his books and this one might be the best. Compared to the seal books, this one has less on the managing and administrative side in my opinion and is hard to put down.Not to mention that the training he writes of is classified and hard to find any info on. Dick Couch is just one of those authors that makes feel blessed to live in his time....If you are interested in going SF, it would be a travesty not to read this, and you're definitely a "no go" as far as your intel gathering.

This book gave me an entirely new view of the Special Forces. I generally read direct action books but after reading "Chosen Soldier" I have developed a new and deep respect for the Special Forces Operator". Interesting read.

I must have seen this book in almost every PX or Surplus store and I never picked up. Suffice to say, seven years later and I am still in the military and I picked it up. And first and foremost, Mr. Couch definitely doesn't sell you anything. He's no-nonsense and all about business. I love his personal thoughts and his ability to see past Inter-service Rivalry and bring out the facts. He illustrated the importance of Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and he gets to the point.It definitely reawakened why I wanted to be in the Army and got me off my ass actually considering going to SFAS.Great Read!

I believe this is the first comprehensive look at the entire U.S. Army Special Forces selection, qualification and training process; certainly the most updated (as of around 2004-5). Couch, a former Navy SEAL, is full of praise for the abilities and character of those young sergeants and junior officers who earn their Green Beret. And while the prose at times lags with over emphasis on procedure, it is still a fascinating look at a world very few of us will ever experience.The main strength of the book is that it's more than an anecdotal telling of what these candidates had to go through. Couch also explores what the SF cadre instructors and trainers bring to the process as well. For instance, I was surprised to learn that there was little of the shouting and hazing that I suppose I'd expect to read about. Instead, Couch shows that throughout all four Phases, the cadre sergeants and officers are extremely considerate AND dedicated military professionals.Although this kind of experience is no longer for me, I believe this is an excellent book for those contemplating a military career in Special Forces. Couch spends a lot of time on each Phase, as well as each Special Forces specialty (communications, engineering, weapons, medical, etc.).There's also a section devoted to the preparation officers undergo to become ODA leaders, although I felt this was where Couch was at his most dryly procedural, whereas I wanted to read more about their field exercises. Finally, the book concludes with a satisfying overview of Robin Sage, the final Phase IV unconventional wargame exercise.Strongly recommended.

This is the worst and weirdest book I have ever seen. virtually useless, wrong info. so weird ... computer generated or auto generated somehow..no person could have actually written this...much of it makes no sense, the English doesn't make sense/ incomplete. Most importantly, content is very poor, no help to me at all. I threw the book out. I then bought Ortho "All About Greenhouses", that was great. The other positive reviews... I have no idea how someone got any value from this book.

I have no idea how this pamphlet receives so many positive reviews. It reads like a magazine article, no substance. No index because it sights no studies, or references. No charts, no images, graphs, no doubt it was written in a weekend. Simply opinions of the author who may or may not have a greenhouse. You could gleen all facts from this short read by looking through a nursery sales brochure. Don’t waste your money.

This book includes literally everything that you could possibly want to start/run a green house. Very useful and informative. This author knows what he's talking about. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in plants, greenhouses, or eating real homegrown food. The author is amazing at telling you what to do through a book!
