This infamous 1991 sequel to Gone With the Wind is over 800 pages. It picks up right after that book with Scarlett trying to save Ashley from falling in Melanie's grave. The shocked folks in Atlanta think Scarlett is throwing herself at Ashley Wilkes at his own wife's funeral.Scarlett goes from one misunderstanding to another as she travels to Tara, Charleston, Savannah, and Ireland. She schemes and schemes to get Rhett back but you must read until the final 10 pages to see what happens with that. You'll meet lots of new characters including two grandparents. Also, you'll meet Cat, her daughter. She is close to her but not so much her other two kids Wade and Ella. You'll meet Rhett's family and Scarlett's three surviving relatives on her mother's side, and also her huge Irish family from her Dad.The book goes from one direction to another. Each city she is in could be its own book, but she leaves and a new story is started in another city. Scarlett is a formidable business woman but clueless when it comes to sex and certain life customs. This novel is different from the 1994 miniseries.

I have read many bad reviews for this book. I will not join that club. Gone with the Wind will always be a classic and this book will never be one. BUT, I thought Ms. Ripley did a great job of making Scarlet grow up without losing the essence of her personality. I enjoyed her adventures that made her grow up and think of other things besides her next new stylish dress. Loved how the author brought out the Irish in her and the fact that much of the book takes place in Ireland. I was thrilled that she finally had a baby that she could love -- and I believe that having that love is what finally made her grow up. Of course, the ending was great. I usually read GWTW every several years and will probably follow it up by re-reading Scarlett.

I have always loved GWTW and have read it numerous times so I was hesitant to get this book but I'm sooooooo glad I Did!This book was better than the original......there, I said it. I loved this continuation, I savored it and slowed my pace towards the end because I didn't want it to be over. I'm tempted to start it again right now, it's that good. The author captured Scarlett and Rhett amazingly well, and her talent for sweeping epic tales is impressive. The globe trotting adventures were on point too! This will be a novel that I will read over and over throughout my life. I got swept up in it and found myself thinking about it throughout the day. I just can't say enough praise!!

I know the reviews are mixed, but I loved it. It was a perfect ending for me to Scarlet and Rhett's story. I watched the movie afterwards and hated the movie. The book has everything.

I was apprehensive when I started reading as in my eyes nothing could beat the "Gone with the Wind" which I loved from the time I was a teenager and still do. I have read it so many times and the translation of it too into my language. Watched the DVD many times over and enjoyed it each time. So, "Scarlett" was going to have to be extremely good if I was to like it.I am glad to say the book turned out much above my expectations. I feel that there would not have been any difference if Margaret Mitchell herself wrote the sequel. What more can I say about the content after that ?Very readable, well researched, unhurried in the descriptions and a very suitable length to cover all that happens.I loved the book and now am hoping to order the DVD.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The author, Alexandra Ripley, weaves a very believable answer to the question " so what happened?" Who wants to be left hanging at the end of "Gone With the Wind" after a reader, such as myself has invested so many hours and tears in this story of true love amidst the smoke and fury of a civil war?ANYWAY, one of the most fascinating parts of "Scarlett " was learning about how a home functions, ; the etiquette and social 'rules' of the time, and an interpretation of life in Atlanta after those 'dawned Yankees' were perceived by survivors of the war.

Of course no one could be expected to live up to Margaret Mitchell's Scarlett. This book is long and enjoyable in its own right, but with a much different voice from the story teller. It drags for awhile, and doesn't capture the heat of Scarlett and Rhett's relationship. That said, I've read it before and still wanted to purchase it as a fan of Gone With the Wind. But mostly cause I can't get enough of Scarlett and Rhett, even if they're not portrayed quite right.

I skimmed through most of this book to get to the story about Scarlett and Rhett. Too long, characters not well written. Rhett was the most interesting but he was not in the story most of the time. I was not happy I delved into reading it. I am beginning to see how misleading most recommendations are for most novels. They are mostly ads to hook you into thinking the book is wonderful and worth purchasing. But many people might enjoy the simplistic style and one dimensional descriptions of this book.
