Being a Seamstress I found this book enlightening, creative and will be a useful tool in my teaching a young friend how to sew. She has the Model figure and can wear these styles. Many of the shirts are definitely Vampy, Trampy and just plain Obscene if worn as sketched in public hence, my giving it only 4 stars. That said, many of the designs are so cute, and so creative that taking the ideas and interchanging them makes for a unique one of a kind shirt. There are 2 identical shirts listed on different pages but that is all I found. So 98 Shirts is more the title. Still, I am happy with my purchase, and look forward to my young friend applying the ideas with her own.
The book looks like a fun read with lots of great sewing ideas. However, while it was shipped in a bubble envelope, the spiral bound pages weren't even attached to the spine. Clearly (as you can tell in picture) they arrived torn from the spine. Whether it happened during shipping (doubtful), while packaging (maybe), or whatever, I was hoping for a book that would be a bit more durable that would hold up well in my collection. Disappointed.
The good: The instructions and diagrams are excellent.The bad: This is really not a book for anyone over the age of 25 or has any level of modesty. Almost all of the designs involve an exposed mid-drift or fully exposed back. I ended up returning it for that reason. They really should have that information in the description.
This book was a big disappointment. It is clearly geared towards adolescent or teenaged girls, who aren't shy about wearing immodest clothing. I was hoping to find some ideas on transforming team t-shirts into something unique and more feminine than your average boxy shirt.
Purchased as a gift for a teenager. She loved it & cannot wait to go to the thrift shop for tshirts to cut up!
I ordered 3 t-shirt books (i'm a crafting maniac) and this was the most disappointing of the bunch. I would highly recommend Tease ed. Sarah Sockit or Generation T by megan nicolay which are much more inspiring. Not only are they better, the instructions are much more clear! This book has very minimal instructions and instead of actual pictures, they use fashiony illustrations which don't really convey how they'd look on a real person. The book itself is nice--spiral bound and small with an arresting orange cover but I gotta say the content is just not as good as the others. Like the other person said, there are a lot of tiny, backless tops. This book won't be useful unless you have a small frame and don't mind wearing shirts without a bra!
I was afraid it would be all tank tops but it's not! There's a lot of t-shirt styles too. A lot of them don't require any sewing either, just a pair of scissors. I didn't think you could cut up a t-shirt to make it more glamorous, but I did, it was amazing. Everyone wanted to know where I bought it and then when I said I made it, the orders came rushing in!! Anyone could do this, I highly recommend it no matter how old or young you are.
This book really does have 99 patterns for t-shirt reconstruction. However, at least half were either too ridiculously revealing or too off the wall to wear in public-- and I am not the most conservative twenty something. My main problem with this book is that IT HAS NO PHOTOS-- you really can't get a great idea of how something will work out unless you see a photo. This has cute little penned drawings, which really dont tell me if this would work out, how it would hang, etc. Also, instructions are limited, mostly diagrams, and if you are not a visual learner, that might prove difficult. Also, a lot of the 99 are variations on the same theme. But, it could spark some creative ideas. Check this out at the library before purchasing--
I am not a skinny twenty-something, but I did enjoy this book. I found that by taking a neckline from one design and a sleeve cut from another, I could turn a boring T-shirt into something far more interesting, without baring all! For those who can wear these styles, enjoy! For others, like me, just take what you want and leave the rest.
