Scene Of The GrindA Killer Coffee Mystery, Book #1Tonya Kappes5 StarsSynopsis; After a bitter divorce, Roxanne Davis (her friends, though few call her Roxie) has moved back home to Honey Springs, Kentucky where she's opened the tourist lakefront town's first coffee house, The Beanhive. With the excitement of the Beanhive opening and rush of business, Roxie is moving on with her life until she finds that one of her best customers was found dead after eating one of Roxie's best-selling doughnuts.Gossip in Honey Springs is as hot at the coffee served at the Beanhive and Roxie has to uncover who is behind the murder not only to save her shop, but her life. (Goodreads)Review:The characters are well developed and well rounded. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know Roxie. She is a hard worker and willing to do whatever it takes to make her coffee shop successful. She is funny, quirky and full of spunk. She has had heartache in her past but that does not stop her from pursuing her dreams. Patrick is one person who broke her heart when she was younger, but they have both grown up now. Can they put the past behind them and become friends once again? I enjoyed the fact that throughout the book there were references to pet adoption because that is something very important. I fell in love with Pepper and and Sassy, and they added to my reading enjoyment. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there, watching all the action take place and listening to conversations going on around me. She is also very talented in developing the settings in her books. I loved the small town feel of Honey Springs, Kentucky. There was everything I would expect from a small town: neighbors who know everybody else’s business, neighbors helping others in time of need, and small town gossip. I would like to visit Honey Springs sometime. The mystery is carried on well throughout the book. There were enough suspects to consider and enough clues to sift through to make even the most seasoned armchair detective have trouble solving it. Add in a few red herrings and you have a real who dunnit that is not easy to solve.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am very happy that this author started a brand new series and I look forward to reading more of this series.

I really enjoyed this book except for some grammar mistakes. I don't usually find fault with an occasional spelling mistake although I have been known to sit on lump of coal and produce a diamond from clenching from the misuse of their, there and they're. I don't bother much about punctuation, unless there isn't any, because I'm lousy at it.About the book. A nice easy cozy that's clean and easy to read. I'm assuming the characters will be fleshed out as the series continues and I'm ok with that. I could get a pretty good picture of the boardwalk where much of the story takes place. I'm looking forward to the book in this series and hope it will be a Kindle Unlimited selection.

Welcome to Honey Springs, Kentucky. Thisis the quaint town where Roxanne Bloom( Roxie ) spent her summer with her AuntMaxine Bloom ( Aunt Maxi ) when she wasgrowing up.Now Roxie is returning to live and start abusiness. She needs to start a new life aftera nasty divorce plus leaving her job as anattorney. She will now take on being a baristaand pastry chef.On the new renovated lakefront boardwalk,Roxie opens a coffee shop called The Beanhive. It is the only shop of it's kind there. The shop isup and running for Honey Festival held by thetown each spring.Roxie discovers that the head contractor ofthe company doing the renovations is an oldfriend and former crush, Patrick Cane. Willthese two connect again??Then murder muddles the waters. The localbookstore, the Crooked Cat proprietor isfound dead. Was it something she ate fromthe Beanhive or was Aunt Maxi involved.Roxie decides to investigate to clear boththe store name and prove her Aunt Maxiinnocent. You will meet Pepper, the silver schnauzerthat has adopted Roxie and Sassy, a poodlethat has taken a liking to a Patrick. The characters are colorful, well developed, vivid, quirky and so likable. The setting makesyou feel right at home. Many suspects toeliminate make this a good mystery.I highly recommend this book.

Recently divorced lawyer, Roxanne Bloom ("Roxie" to her friends) decided to move to her aunt's hometown of Honey Springs to open a coffeehouse there. Coffee was always a great comfort to her during her college days and in the midst of her divorce, so she knew opening a coffeehouse was a dream come true.Honey Springs is on the verge of reopening their boardwalk area to locals and out of town visitors. The Bean Hive, Roxie's coffeehouse, is in a prime spot right on the boardwalk. Roxie couldn't be happier.Until Alexis Roarke, owner of the Crooked Cat Bookstore, is found dead. By Roxie, no less. And who quickly becomes the main suspect? Aunt Maxi. So now Roxie has to use her sleuthing skills she'd learned in law school to track down the killer to get her aunt off the hook.I loved this book! Mrs. Kappes has a talent for getting her readers to absolutely fall in love with her characters. It is so easy to fall right into their lives. They feel like your friends. And you definitely feel that way about the citizens of Honey Springs.I try to guess the killer before he/she is revealed at the end. I was trying to make what I thought was the least likely person, the guilty party. Everything they said/did I was all, "Mmmm-hmmm. That's because you're a killer." And, "That's suspicious activity, because you're a KILLER!" lol! But I was so very wrong. The killer was a complete surprise to me. I love that.I definitely recommend this book. It's a page turner, for sure. :)
